How We Verify Licensing Requirements
Contractor licensing depends on your state, classification, and sometimes county/city. Our goal is to summarize the pathway and link you to the sources you should rely on before you schedule or submit paperwork.
Our verification sources (in priority order)
- Licensing authority / board website (requirements, applications, renewals).
- Candidate bulletins (exam provider rules, open-book policy, allowed references, scoring details).
- Exam provider portals (PSI, Pearson VUE, Prometric, ICC scheduling and reference rules).
- Published statutes and administrative rules when a requirement is defined legally.
What we won’t guess
- Exact question counts, time limits, or passing scores unless the official bulletin states them clearly for the specific exam.
- Local (city/county) licensing rules unless we can link to an official local authority page.
- Reference book editions unless the bulletin specifies the edition/year.
How to use our pages
- Start with the state page: it points you to the right exam type and the official sources.
- Confirm your classification: requirements change drastically between residential, commercial, and trade specialties.
- Use timed practice: once you’re sure you’re studying the right exam, practice under time to build passing habits.
Report an issue
If you find outdated requirements, broken links, or a mismatch with the current bulletin, email [email protected] with the page URL and the official source link.
